Care in Mann was set up as a good neighbour scheme and is run by a group of volunteers who provide a helping hand with transportation to those in need ; this may be because they are unable to provide their own transport, or because they cannot access the ambulance service.

We annually provide about 1400 trips, most of these being return trips.

We will always try to find a driver: however, there may be occasions when no driver is available, especially at short notice.

We also do our best to give advice as to where other help needed may be found.

Who we can help:

People who need transport for hospital, dental, GP, physiotherapy or other medical appointments

We MAY be able to help with shopping trips, and business or other appointments

In most cases, if appropriate, the driver will be able to wait and take the client home

Where we are unable to help:

We cannot undertake regular or long term requests, or jobs which require specialist medical or first aid provision, or clients who need ambulance equipment.

Our drivers are NOT insured to transport wheelchairs, or large walkers, and clients must have sufficient mobility to enable them to get in and out of the car unaided.  It is usually possible to obtain the use of a wheelchair at Noble’s Hospital, but the client should be able to get in and out of it with minimal assistance.

How to book transport:

  • About 7-10 days beforehand, ring the duty telephonist on 628500 between the hours of 9am-5pm on Monday – Friday

  • Provide full details of the transport required, the destination, date and time of appointment and any special requirements

  • Wait for a return call from the duty telephonist who will provide the name of the driver and the time of pick up.

Our drivers are all registered, carry identification and have had police checks.

Care in Mann complies with regulations regarding storage of personal data.

Is there a charge for transport ?

As a registered charity, we do not make a charge, but we do welcome your donations, as we receive no other financial support to cover our costs. The driver will issue an official receipt for any donation received.
